Description
The AH-64 'Apache' Attack Helicopter first left the production line in 1983 and has proved itself in combat many times. The AH-64A is well armoured and agile, and can track targets day or night using infrared sensors and laser targeting. The latest version, the AH-64D 'Longbow' has a radar fitted above the rotor head, and upgraded electronics and cockpit instruments. The Apache is in use with the US Army, Israel, Kuwait, the British Army, Greece, Japan, UAR and the Netherlands.
The Apache is armed with a 30mm chain gun, linked to the gunner's helmet sight, Hellfire missiles, and Hydra unguided rockets. Sidewinders can also be carried for self-defence.
This example is an AH-64D of 119 Squadron Israeli Air Force circa 2008.
