Description

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was designed before WW2, and the earliest versions saw combat in the Spanish Civil War.  It became the most widely used fighter in the Luftwaffe with 30,000 being produced in many variants and sub-variants.

The 109 was also used by at least ten other countries, but was out-classed by the end of the war, and only lived on as the Avia S-199 and Hispano HA1.112.

The 109 G2 was armed with 2 x 7.92mm machine guns and 1 x 20mm cannon.

This example is a Bf 109 G-2 of the Finnish Air Force 1943.

MT-201 was used to shoot down 32.5 Soviet aircraft. The .5 is a shared victory, identified as a Douglas A-20 Havoc. It was flown by a half dozen different pilots, most notably Squadron Commander, Major, Eino Luukkanen and Captain Hans Wind. The aircraft survived the war and was struck off charge in 1952.
