Description

The Messerschmitt Me-163 was a rocket powered fighter developed in Germany in WW2. It entered service with the Luftwaffe in 1944, and although not that successful operationally, it was revolutionary and changed the way people on both sides thought about fighter design.

The Me-163 was faster than anything else in the sky by a wide margin, being capable of over 590mph (960kph) but it had very limited endurance (around 8 minutes) before it had to glide back down to base. This problem, as well as the instability of the fuel, led to it being dropped in favour of the Me-262, which had more conventional jet engines.

The Me-163 was armed with 2 x 30mm cannon.

This example is a Me-163B Werke No. 191454 of II/JG400 1945.
