Typhoon Canada 440 Sqn 1

Description

The Hawker Typhoon entered service in 1941 as a replacement for the Hurricane. It was fast and powerful, with over 2,000hp from it's Napier engine, but it lacked the high altitude agility of the Hurricane or Spitfire, and so it's role was changed to low-level interceptor, and then fighter-bomber.

The Typhoon was equipped with bombs in 1942 and rockets in 1943, and went on to be one of the most successful ground attack aircraft of WW2.

The Mark 1B was armed with 4 x 20mm cannon. Racks could be fitted for bombs 2 x 500lb or 2 x 1,000lb, or the bomb racks removed and 8 x launch rails fitted for 3 inch rockets.

This example is a Typhoon Mk IB of 440 Squadron RCAF 1944.

your welcome - like i said i felt its only fitting that if you take the time to draw them then someone should take the time to tell the true story behind them.
as someone i know said once people look at the aircraft and think how cool, the pilots and groundstaff etc look at them and think of the ones that didn't come home or did but are gone now.
the aircraft were just as real and alive as the pilots to these men - esp the groundstaff, but as beautiful as they are to look at its worth remembering that for every one of them you can see in those picks for many this was the last time they were ever seen alive again and for many of us those aircraft are still out there now on eternal patrol no matter which side they come from.

as i said not me but someone who served, sort of sums it up for me now.
