Description
The de Havilland Vampire was the second British jet fighter after the Meteor. It entered service with the RAF in 1945, just too late for the end of WW2 but was a post-war success.
The Vampire was made under licence in several countries and used by over 30 air forces around the world, with over 3,200 built. The Vampire saw combat in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the Malayan Emergency, and the Rhodesian Bush War.
Fighter, fighter-bomber, night fighter and trainer versions were made with the main armament being 4 x 20mm cannon and drop tanks or 500 lb bombs.
This example is a Vampire FB.52 of HavLv 13 Finnish Air Force 1957.
