Dear Watchers,

2 weeks ago my normally ultra-reliable machine failed quite badly, and I am in dire straights now.

My main drive failed and is not recoverable - replacement was £175

The DVD drive had failed earlier but I had not realised - replacement was £50

The graphics card failed a couple of days ago - replacement was £200

I am trying to recover what I can bit by bit from my backup, but it is a slow process indeed, and I still cannot earn any money at the moment...

If you can help financially, any small contributions would be welcome - Paypal: bill@clavework-graphics.co.uk

Thank you,

Bill aka Clave

I'm sorry to hear of your technical issues, but unless the drive has seized up, it might be possible to recover the data. If the drive is making noises, but working, I suggest you COPY data from the drive to another drive. Never use the MOVE option, as it takes longer. Also, you may want to do what I've done for years and that is install two or three drives in your machine, one of which contains the operating system, and the others act as a workspace, and as a data backup (2TB drives are perfect for this). I often have duplicate data on both drives, and dump the present projects to a large capacity memory stick once a week, or twice if it's a big project. Those memory sticks are more reliable than DVD's (which corrupt after a year or so).

It was horrendous - everything broke which goes to show that the non-Apple parts of an Apple computer are not always that great...

The new drive (part solid-state) is excellent though, and I have one back-up plan in place and will shortly get cloud back-up as well.

The only thing that saved me from a complete wipeout was Apple's Time Machine - it did not work properly, but it DID save most of my important work, so full marks to the guy that invented that bit of software...

Thanks :)

New hard drive is in place and I have recovered most things now including all my aircraft work thankfully...

Shit ! I feel sorry. It is painful especially when we lose data.
My computer crashed a few months ago!

Keep the spirits up mate !

Best regards.
